Dipping back into this incredible experience.
As usual, after returning from Greece, we dove straight back into full-speed life—but we are reminding ourselves not to forget the lessons from that land of ancient wisdom.
A characteristic of Greek culture we observed and admired was that of not sweating the small stuff. There is an easy shoulder shrug at things that would send most of us spinning—the delays, the non-linear paths, the little inconveniences. Maybe it’s the hills and sea, the endless olive trees that have witnessed centuries of sages and battles alike, that help put everything in perspective. Passion, tradition, and beauty are abundant—but urgency and perfectionism are not. It’s relieving and refreshing.
Even the food carries this philosophy. Every bowl of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, olive oil, herbs, and generous slab of feta teetering on top felt like poetry—simple, yet profound. Each ingredient speaks for itself in its arrangement by nature.
Our retreat unfolded like that too—something new to explore each day, yet always a soft place to land. Staying at a family-run retreat center, Urania Luxury Villas, grounded us in the roots of the land. We met Ourania, or “Mama,” who worked tirelessly to produce the freshest, most delectable meals from scratch, and her son Jason, whose warmth and humor made us feel instantly at home. Their care for us felt genuine and woven into the generations that built this place.
The villas were beautifully appointed and roomy, each with its own pool and jaw-dropping view. I had to regularly close my mouth to keep from gawking on each walk through the property. And our attendees flowing in the shala with a clear view of Ithaca… that was pure magic. It’s some kind of heaven to feel that close to the moon and stars.
After nearly a decade of leading retreats, we know when a place has that rare combination of comfort, authenticity, cultural reverence, connection, and a feeling of freedom. These are the places we continue to return to. This is one of those extraordinary places.
So stay tuned—we’ll be dipping back into the Ionian Sea before too long!
